Modular system for wireless electronic door-entry device

What we offer:
The present invention allows the use of one or more mobile telephones with wireless Bluetooth or Zigbee connectivity, or another, standard technology, as wireless electronic door-entry device terminal. It comprises a module forming the electronic door-entry terminal, which incorporates wireless connectivity, an automatic answering facility with voice mail and presence simulation function, optional bridge/wireless repeater equipment, and the means by which to communicate with one or more wireless devices, preferably mobile telephones, which serve to implement the user interface. The system has the capability to redirect calls to the door-entry device to an external telephone by means of wireless transmission to a mobile telephone connected to the mobile telephony network.

Autonomous Robotic Wheelchair System for Movement of Handicapped in Indoor Environments

What we offer:
The robotized wheelchair system has an independent or semi-autonomous navigation system, provided with an assembly of sensors, a standard laptop connected to other wireless computers and an electronic system based on microcontrollers. The software processes sensory information and generates movement commands that the electronic system is responsible for translating. The navigation system uses proximity sensors, rotation sensors and cameras in conjunction with specialized software to determine where objects or impediments are located and thereby redirect the path of the wheelchair so as to avoid such objects in real time, as well as a voice control system enabling to adapt to the user's personal terms to refer to the environment. All components are easy to extract to facilitate maintenance, repair or upgrade.

Augmented Reality on mobile devices: tour guides and cultural heritage

What we offer:
ISIS group combines a group of students and researchers from the UMA, pioneer researchers in Augmented Reality (AR). Nowadays, market penetration of this technology is virtually nonexistent, despite its actual demand. Specifically, ISIS Group is involved in developing AR applications for smartphones and tablets. Current smartphone generations have great computing power, wireless communications, data network access and multimedia capabilities. The end user’s investment is small or even tends to zero, given the spread of smartphones on the market. Within the vast range of potential products / contents based on this technology, we propose as an example the development of a new concept of tour guides in Malaga.

What are we looking for:
ISIS Group contributes with wide experience in developing innovative interfaces and quality contents for new products . Although these applications are innovative, they need to be inserted into a business area. It demands skills and resources outside of the capabilities and goals of a research institution. Certainly, a potential business partner can provide the infrastructure, experience and resources necessary to transfer these applications to society, or detecting a possible need in the market. System and Method for Traffic Management

What we offer:
The technology refers to a system and procedure for traffic management using distributed estimation. The distributed estimation of the traffic density between different points of a given route provides information to the driver in advance avoiding risky situations. It’s a system easy to integrate into the protection elements and road signs; hence, it constitutes a simple, low-cost and efficient alternative than solutions like cameras, a human operator or information panel. For this approach the system uses a variety of nodes distributed along the road detecting local traffic density of the corresponding road area located in front of that node. Furthermore, the system is resistant to non-reliable local estimates. Another object of the invention is a method to estimate the traffic density from using a variety of local measurements.

Low-Power Sound Recognition System

What we offer:
The technology refers to a multifarious, low-power and easy to integrate sound detection system suitable for any type of system. Between the systems in which it can be integrated, are pointed out the low-cost embedded systems which need a sound recognition and / or detection system and with cost adequate to the system where it has to be integrated. Furthermore, the system even allows to be integrated within the same embedded system board as well as to be connected according to any nowadays existing communication protocol. This novel system does not need any special calibration or configuration for its functioning, hence enables two different functioning modes; basic and advanced.
These systems are used in mobile robots or/and music applications for educational purposes.

High-performance directional couplers for thick-film technologies

What we offer:
This technology, based on slot-coupled directional couplers, allows to overcome the main problems associated with nowadays preferred directional couplers for thick-film technologies, as multisection, coupled-TEM lines, directional couplers, or non-uniform directional couplers. To do so, parasitic effects caused by the discontinuities in the propagation of both, even and odd modes of the coupler are compensated taking advantage from both the existing orthogonality between even and odd modes, and the transparency of the slot to the odd mode. This procedure enables the design of high-performance directional couplers capable of working at high frequencies and with a bandwidth and a coupling level varying according to the needs and requirements of each application.
We offer a directional coupler slot-coupled and the design method of such a coupler that minimizes the use of SMDs. It also improves the equipment reliability, reduces costs and assembly time and disposes the need for connectors.

Method and System for Solving Optimization Problems for Mobile Devices through Networks

What we offer:
This invention consists of a procedure and a system for the use of mobile devices’ computing power and communication through the Bluetooth®. This is for transferring data in a distributed setting where all devices work together to solve complex problems. The procedure of this invention consists in running bio-inspired algorithms on mobile devices that communicate through wireless technology; preferably Bluetooth® or similar. Each device communicates with the other without the need of any central server to manage the entire process, or in a client-server (or master/slave) model where the server is a central computer that runs a predetermined BnB (Branch and Bound, branching and pruning) algorithm while clients (mobile devices) will execute independent bio-inspired algorithms.

Device and method for effective and permanent high-speed communications based on opposed laser beams

What we offer:
The technology comprises a device and a monitoring procedure for tracking of opposed laser beams based on embedded control systems. The tracking device is installed in an optical transceiver comprising a guidance system with a micrometer precision controller on which is mounted an optical duplexer device that allows simultaneous transmission and reception of laser beams.The transceiver’s optical duplexer device transmits and receives a laser beam from a counterpart optical duplexer device. The monitoring procedure involves two laser beams which are situated in an opposed position one in front the other. The beams remained aligned by following the track of each other. The present invention has the main objective of establishing effective and permanent high-speed communications done out-doors by transceivers of optical communication networks.

A laser transmitter device with the ability to keep the laser diode in a stable thermal state is presented. To do so, the laser transmitter device comprises an embedded system controlling not only the diose thermal state but also its irradiance state and depth by means of at least three different control loops. Laser Receiver Device with Embedded Control based on Thermoregulated Avalanche Photodiode (APD)

What we offer:
A receiver device based on thermoregulated avalanche photodiode with embedded control is presented. This device receives binary modulated laser light focused on active area of an APD from an optical system formed by both, a converging and a hemispherical lens, which collect light and direct it towards to the active area of an APD using a polymer fiber. Spectral analyzer based on neural networks

What we offer:
The invention consists of a method and device for the spectral analysis of periodic signals. The purpose of the invention is to enable the spectral analysis of periodic signals to be performed with accuracy and great flexibility. The novel spectral analysis method is based on sine-fitting techniques and on artificial neural networks. The signal to be analysed is sampled at corresponding moments during several cycles. The samples obtained are applied as inputs to a neural network which supplies the coefficients of the truncated Fourier series corresponding to the signal being analysed and the spectrum of the signal is established using said coefficients. In turn, the neural network also supplies an estimate of the fundamental frequency of the signal being analysed.

Compact Mobile Device for Vehicle Identification and Management of Parking In-situ

What we offer:
The present invention enables automatic recognition of a vehicle registration plate by means of software specifically developed for the invention. It also records the date and time of recognition, and stores the information referring to the location thereof by means of a global positioning system (GPS, Galileo or similar). Simultaneously, the device gives access to information on detailed location of the vehicle (street/number) using wireless connection based on the public infrastructure (GPRS, UMTS, etc.), as well as to corporate servers where information is given on the same. Finally, the device can be connected to a small printing unit with a view to issuing printed copies of in-situ fines, including the image of the vehicle (giving proof of the infringement), among other necessary data.

Motorized micrometric-guiding device for accurate capture and redirection of laser beams in free space

What we offer:
The device consists of a mobile support which accommodates an optical system. This optical system contains a reflector that receives light at its focal plane and a collimator that concentrates the laser beam to be transmitted. The mechanical structure contains a mechanism that allows micrometric movements with two degrees of freedom. The angular movement is performed with accuracy within the microradian range. The electronic structure includes two motors (step by step) able to rotate step-like while its axes move the mechanism. It also contains four electro-optical sensors that allow detecting the limits of the azimuthal and the elevation movements. Accessible control device for electronic and mechanical systems by monitoring the movement of a body part.

What we offer:
The technology refers to a method for controlling electronic and mechanical systems by monitoring the movement of a given body part. This invention presents a novel solution to be used as a control interface for the above mentioned systems, being especially recommended for people with limited mobility of their limbs. This device can be adapted to different parts of the body such as the head, leg or arm, performing a calibration to suit specific user movements, and thus filter involuntary movements. System for locating minors in large retail facilities

What we offer:
The technology refers to a novel system that alerts when a minor wanders off in a large indoor or outdoor retail facility. The system enables the use of low-power-consumption wireless networks. It includes an installed infrastructure including a series of fixed nodes and a set of moving nodes to be located. Moreover, it includes another set of terminals worn by the adults in charge and intended to receive lost child notifications. Inter-node communication complies with a Zigbee-type standard short-range, low-power consumption protocol.

RFID-based object tracking for the visually impaired

What we offer:
The technology uses a mobile RFID reader which is built into a mobile device having a processing capacity and adapted for the visually impaired user, with the aim of locating objects and areas of interest in their household using active and passive UHF RFID tags. Three categories of tagged elements can be distinguished: fixed, semi-static and dynamic. Upon detection of tags close to the antenna, an association (object, location) is made in the database which may be placed locally in relation to the device or remotely, so that multiple mobile devices can access the same. Furthermore, the invention provides several possibilities, such as activating an audible signal system, or to service more than one blind in the same household, being also economically more competitive with the solutions existing in the market.

Novel multi-mode interference coupler of high precision

What we offer:
The present invention relates to integrated optical components, here in particular to the design of multi-mode interference couplers (MMI couplers) for opto-electronic integrated circuits (OEICs).The objective of the invention consists in providing interference couplers with a precise intensity and phase distribution. This is obtained by designing the conditions for the self-image effect in a way that the sharpness of the arising intensity distribution is improved significantly. Reputation Scheme for Identity Federations

What we offer:
The presented technology tries to solve the problem of whom to trust in online services over the Internet. More specifically, the system focuses on the case of federated identity management and based on this a model called “Federated Reputation systems” is built. A Reputation engine is added to the Identity provider. This engine is in charge of maintaining reputation values for their users. Later, such reputation values can be required by any of the federated Service Providers for having extra certificates about the users in order to accept or deny access to their services. The technology offers a solution assuming a scenario of an Identity federation where Identity Providers keep a reputation engine for maintaining and updating the reputation of their users. On request, these values of reputation can be send to the Service Providers.

Efficient Alarm Management for the Industry Control Systems based on Reputation

What we offer:
This technology employs reputation to manage automatically and intelligently SCADA alarms in two ways. In first place, we have designed an Early Warning System based on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and reputation for controlling the network behavior. The WSN are organized into clusters where a Cluster Head (CH) is designated. This CH will contain a Reputation Manager Module. Secondly, we have designed an algorithm for assigning an incidence to the most suitable human operator to take it up. Such assignment will depend on a set of factors, among them the criticality of the alarm and the actual operators’ reputation. Basically, reputation allows the system to identify which human operator is more suitable to attend an incidence.

Integration and security mechanisms for RFID-enabled personal documentation

The technology includes a definition of the concept of hybrid documents, the new requirements that can be requested from them, as well as the security requirements a hybrid document can fulfil. Moreover, advanced security mechanisms for them are designed, including a key management infrastructure for handling access keys to RFID-enabled documents. Privacy of Individuals in Location-Based Services

What we offer:
The technology offers a solution to protect privacy of the individuals while accessing location-based services. In order to implement our scheme, the user is equipped with an IEEE 802.15.4 compliant device that identifies the user against the deployed infrastructure. While the user moves it receives some challenges from the infrastructure that must be responded to get access to the services. To prevent user tracking any identifiable information in the communication packets is removed. Finally, the identification is done at application level by means of shared keys between the user and the infrastructure. Only the service provider can link the identity of the user with the responses received from the intermediaries.
