Embedded electronic system for the supervision of vehicles.

What we offer:
A Spanish research group from the Electronics Department of Alcala University has developed an open electronic system that allows to establish services of intelligent vehicle for transport using EGNOS tools (geographical positioning system). This model has the capacity of data transmission to long distance (movable telephony) and to short distance (radio frequency). Technical cooperation is required.

This open operative system contribute to some services of intelligent vehicles inside transport world.

As an open system totally programmable, it has several possibilities of transport application. It is a system of low reconfigurable cost based on the application necessities. It is possible to be applied for the detection of robbed vehicles, control of fleets of vehicles, automatic detection of traffic infractions, payment of automobile insurance, automatic payment in tolls and parkings, also with the possibility of use it in the railroad and marine transport.

What are we looking for:

Measurer of parameters of the mains with ZigBee wireless communications

What we offer:
A department of a spanish university offers an electronics device that allows the measurement of the parameters of the electrical signal (three-phase or single-phase) and its transmission using wireless technologies (ZigBee), conectable to any means of processing or information transmission. The advantages of the system are the saving of costs and the flexibility in their configuration, to not to be necessary a specific connection wiring. Looks for commercial agreement with technical assistance.

A system of low cost has been designed that allows to the monitoritation of different parameters from the mains (energy, cuts, tips,) and that communicates through the ZigBee technology. The parameters that can be measured include the active energy, reactive and apparent energy; peaks of tensions and/or currents and degradation in the characteristics of the signal.

Assistant robot for surgical instrumentalist’s functions in the environment of an operating room.

What we offer:
A research group from the Electronics Department of a Spanish university has developed a robot that recognizing words from different people, identify the speaker announcer and executes the necessary movements to gather and to deliver the set of instruments used in a surgical operation. The robot acts as a surgical instrumentalist. The group is looking for partners for license agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance.

There are no similar solutions in the market. This system allows automating many surgical interventions.

Inside an operating room this system allows a reduction of the necessary personnel in certain types of surgical operations.

Embedded System for Developing Real-TIme Applications (SEDATIR)

What we offer:
A Spanish research group of Computer Engineering Department of Alcalá University has developed a technology for developing and testing real-time applications embedded in an external platform (SEDATIR). It is a research and development tool, whose objective is to provide of necessary and basic functionality for analysis, scheduling and development of real-time embedded applications.

If SEDATIR is used in the Engineering department of a company, it would contribute to the following competitive advantages:
- Temporary reduction of the development phase.
- Cost reduction.
- Better quality and reliability of the developed real-time system.

Intelligent agent to perform optimal control and motion planning in non-linear dynamic systems.

What we offer:
The result achieved by the Space Research Group (SRG) of the University of Alcalá has been to have available a novel system, which is scientifically based and integrates computational techniques concerning dynamics systems and intelligent learning schemes. The goal is to design efficient optimal control algorithms in order to be applied to any non-linear dynamic system. The result of the investigation has been used first, for performing optimal motion planning in experimental mobile platforms demonstrating its applicability in industrial environments, and second, for attitude control in satellites inside a space environment.

If the new optimal control algorithm is used in the Engineering department of a company, it would contribute to the following competitive advantages:
- Innovating in the field of control engineering applied to non-linear dynamic systems.
- Offering the best solution currently available in the market with respect to optimal motion planning and satellite attitude control.

Electronic, mobile and autonomous device that allows the location and recognition of a person in the different areas of a building.

What we offer:
A research group from the Computation Department of Alcalá University has developed an electronic device in which, inserting the electronic ID card of a person, the location and recognition of this person is obtained in the different areas of a building. This allows a major control of the people that enter and go out of the dependences of a building, managing also the access to certain restricted areas.

This new technology takes advantage of the conjunction of the GPS technologies and the electronic ID card for the location of people identified by the DNIe, including the technologies Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS and UMT for the sending of information.

The great advantage of the system is that an ID electronic is only required for its activation. This ID car is a document of obliged, personal and not transferable use, which assures that all the users will have their identifying and that it will be unique.

System on Chip (SoC) development and verification tools

What we offer:
A research group from the Electronics Department of Alcalá University has developed a technology for designing and verification of System on Chip (SoC). These tools allow to simulate at high speed, the SoC behaviour in its double aspect HW/SW, providing to the designer a rapid and precise information about the performance of the evaluated design. This allows to reduce the development time and the consequently the time-to-market.

FPGA are one of the most cost efficient alternatives for SoC implementation, specially those that are based in SW cores processors, but it doesn’t exist nowadays any tool with features similar to ours. Our solution offers a simulation speed more than 2•103 higher than the commercial options already in the market. In addition the former only allow to evaluate design performance by means of trial and error approach, being an extremely inefficient alternative.

Face tracking and pose estimation with automatic 3D model construction.

What we offer:
A research group from the Electronic Department of Alcalá University has developed a method for robustly tracking and estimating the face pose of a person using stereo vision. The method is invariant to identity and does not require previous training. A face model is automatically initialised and constructed on-line. This method could serve as the basis of a driver monitoring system and has been tested on sequences recorded in a moving car. The group is interested in commercial agreements with companies from the automotive sector and video games.

For the first time, this system of computer vision is able of recognizing the orientation of the human face, with no need of previous identification of the person or offline training.

This system is innovative in the way of joining the three algorithms that uses for its functioning: SMAT, RANSAC and POSIT. To the best of our knowledge they had never been used before in that way.

This method works in real time (30 images per second) and it takes 33 milliseconds to execute the algorithms.

What are we looking for:

Tools software for the strategic planning of networks of 2 nd and 3 rd generation and its extension to networks of 4 th generation LTE.

What we offer:
A research group from Alcalá University has developed in collaboration to a research group from Cantabria University, a set of software tools for the planning of mobile networks very useful to make a network design appropriate from the point of view of total costs, so much if the planning is used for the calculation of the interconnection costs, since for strategic studies of investment on new services.

The principal potential of these tools lies in the use of very advanced algorithms of planning of mobile networks that allow to optimized the network from the point of view of the investment that has to be done by the operator.

The current commercial models are usually based on small programmes done in Excell that evidently does not have the optimum potential of these heuristic developed in languages of high-level programming.

These tools provide the necessary information to the cost model LRIC Bottom Up defined by the European Commission.

Operators and governments of different countries already have used the tools that are described in this document.

ARP-Path Shortest Path Bridges (FastPath Ethernet Transparent Bridges)

What we offer:
Universidad de Alcalá and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid offer the patent licence for protocols for Fastpath Ethernet switches, a new concept of simple and compatible all-links Ethernet switch that avoids link blocking by spanning tree and provides shortest path performance. It has been implemented successfully on Linux and Openflow/NetFPGA boards.

FastpathUD is the first proposal using for Layer two Shortest Path Bridging and unicast/multicast source rooted tree construction, without need of an additional (control plane) routing protocol and the simplest one.

It provides very simple and performant Ethernet Shortest Path bridging devices
Zero configuration. Compatible with IEEE 802.1D standard in core-island mode.

Ethernet Fastpath switches provide high network utilization and performance equal to Shortest Path Bridges (under standardization at 802.1aq), without the need of running complex link state protocols on switches.

What are we looking for:

Smart sensors for energy efficient cities.

What we offer:
A Spanish research group from Alcalá University has developed a smart-sensors-based technology that can be applied to improve the energy efficiency of urban environments in an holistic fashion. This technology covers areas such as Intelligent Transportation Systems and Energy Efficient Measurement applications.

In the context of transportation, innovative aspects come from the use of new sensors that provide richer information than current sensor technologies, as well as the novelty of the proposed applications.

On the other hand, the automatic creation of thermal efficiency digital maps has not been proposed up to now. These maps will be very useful for local authorities to improve the energy efficiency of their local communities.

This technology can be seen as an holistic system, or it can be offered in its different parts adapted to different needs.

What are we looking for:
The group is interested in establishing commercial or technical cooperation agreements with companies involved in urban traffic management or energy distribution and generation.

The type of collaboration sought implies the steps needed to adapt the technology to the needs and activities of the company that assumes its commercialisation. Likewise, it implies further technical engineering maintenance.

Among the companies that may have potential interest in this technology we remark companies that are responsible of the urban traffic management systems, such as the following: SICE, ETRA, Ferrovial, INDRA, etc. In addition, this may be of special interest for energy distribution and generation companies as well as companies that provide different thermal isolation solutions, such as the next companies: ACS, Dragados, FCC, Endesa, Iberdrola, etc. Finally, medium companies with a high degree of innovation may be interested in commercialising the proposed technologies.

Temperature and strain fully distributed fiber optic sensor.

What we offer:
The Photonics Engineering Group (University of Alcalá de Henares) offers a 2 meter resolution long-range Brillouin distributed temperature and strain fiber optic sensor that reaches 100 km. The sensor is low cost, flexible and integrable in all kinds of civil infrastructure (tunnels, bridges, railways, etc).

Brillouin distributed optical fiber sensors are one of the most useful systems to provide temperature and strain monitoring to large civil structures.

A distributed sensor provides measurements over its whole length as opposed to point sensors. As fiber optic behaves both as sensor and as carrier of the information its implementation is easy. Our sensor features accurate measurements over 100 km with as low as 2 meter resolution.

The sensor is based on the well established fiber optics technology which provides advantages such as low cost, small size, low weight and flexibility, ease of maintenance and integration. The sensor can be used in places where no electronics are allowed due to security or interference reasons. The sensor allows the monitoring of >10000 measuring points with a single fiber cable and a single interrogation unit.

What are we looking for:
The group seeks to collaborate with national and international research centers as well as companies to spread the range of possible applications of the system.

ILCS (Intelligent Lighting Control System)

What we offer:
This proposal is an intelligent control system of the activity of street lighting luminaires based on LED technology. This system is intended to start / stop / mitigate conveniently the lights located primarily on highways. This will achieve significant energy savings and a significant reduction of CO2. So far, there is no control system as this one and thanks to the technology implemented in the luminaire, value-added functions can be implemented.

Thanks to this proposal, significantly save of the energy cost of the roads where vehicle traffic is low/medium in certain time, will be achieved.The autonomous intelligent system on / off / lighting control is not implemented in any current system. Also thanks to wireless technology it forms a mesh structure of streetlights that can share information between them and even make a coordinated lighting.

Monitoring and prediction system for project management

What we offer:
The monitoring system developed by “CuBIT Software Measurement Laboratory” research group at Alcalá University (UAH), means a significant advance in the project management techniques used by industry.

Current techniques allow making a “snapshot” of the status of the project at a particular time of its development, while the system developed by UAH allows seeing the entire project in its current state and future prospects, at any stage of its development. In addition, the system developed at UAH introduces two completely new concepts in the field of project management: speed and acceleration of project’s costs. All these make this system the perfect tool to keep track of projects in a better way than those techniques existing so far.

The present technology is a mathematical system applied to a software tool that automates the different calculations of the project management, in order to analyze both, its current status and future projections as well.
