Multi-sensor fusion platform for traffic monitoring systems.

What we offer:
A Research Group of a Madrid region University has available sensor fusion technologies for surveillance applications, which are able to integrate and unify the information from different types of sensors and data in context through data fusion and computational intelligence techniques. Surveillance software based on agents system

What we offer:
A Spanish research group has developed a surveillance system based on the agents theory and multiagents system in the Distributed Artificial Intelligence. The system allows that each data acquisition source could operate independently, but coordinated by a central host. The technology improves the surveillance process, reducing the human attention and introducing automatic alarms.

Recommender system based on reputation of personal and subjective opinions.

What we offer:
A research group offers a new automated process to manage reputation. It will make customized recommendations easier in electronic commerce interactions. One of the most significant points to trust recommendations and providers is to consider subjective and personal criteria.

The main features of themodel of reputation management in recommender systems are:

a) Adaptability of the agent’s behaviour to the external perceptions, to the elapsed time, to the number of evaluations, and the difference with the previous reputation. And furthermore, to the internal mental state produced by all the previous interactions of a given agent with the others.

b) Uncertainty reasoning involved in a subjective evaluation of services that reputation updating procedure receives as input.

What are we looking for:
We are looking for companies that have (or want to have) a personal recommender system included in their business. The recommendations may be the main provided service, or just a complementary service.
The company should require way to acquire some feedback from the users to improve the service provided by electronic means (email, web).

Position estimation method in information retrieval systems.

What we offer:
A research group have developed a method to estimate the position of a developed resource as web document type, in any query performed by a search engine in information retrieval tools.
This application uses a ranking algorithm, which optimizes our design to reach a good position in information recovery tools.

EDDI: Extracting Drug-Drug Interactions from biomedical texts

What we offer:
EDDI is an automatic system for the extraction of Drug-Drug Interactions from biomedical texts, developed by the Laboratorio de Bases de Datos Avanzadas.

A drug-drug interaction occurs when one drug influences the level or activity of another drug. The detection of drug interactions is an important research area in patient safety since these interactions can become very dangerous and increase health care costs. Although there are different databases supporting health care professionals in the detection of drug interactions, this kind of resource is rarely complete. Although several approaches have dealt with the extraction of protein interactions and other biomedical relationships, EDDI is the first system focused on the detection of drug-drug interactions.

INTERACTOR: Natural Interaction Platform

What we offer:
Interactor is an Interaction Platform based on Natural Interaction (human-like) techniques developped by the Laboratorio de Bases de Datos Avanzadas (Labda) at UC3M. It enables to implement with little effort a corpus-based Task Oriented Interaction Domain for bipartite dialogues. Thus it assumes an application and provides access to it through Natural Interaction.

Interactor can be implanted onto a computer system holding out a set of tasks. This platform will receive user interventions (represented through semantic structures), update interaction state, and handle the interaction in a human-like way. For this, a wide range of interface components can be inlayed into the platform (voice recognition/synthesis and Natural Language Processing, 3D avatars, GUI, etc).

Intelligent monitoring systems based on sensor networks with military, environmental, domotics, security and tracking applications.

What we offer:
Spanish University research group offers the expertise of its members in the development of monitoring systems based on sensor networks. The main advantages of this technology are the decreased cost, the time saved and the increased reliability of the results.

The algorithms developed by the members of the group span almost all the aspects of sensor networks, both from a theoretical point of view (design of algorithms for coding, transmission, detection and processing of information) and from a practical point of view (planning and building real sensor networks, integration of heterogeneous sensor networks, and programming application interfaces for gathering, processing and displaying information).

What are we looking for:
The group can offer the knowledge, expertise and know how of its members, proved by their participation, research projects (with regional, national and international funding) and industrial contracts, as well as the publication of papers in international journals and in international conferences.

Regarding the intelligent monitoring, systems based on sensor networks can be of interest for security companies (specialised both in closed areas and in wide open spaces), as well as in the military environment. In this case the main objective would be to develop a realistic test environment to validate the multiple algorithms available and designed by the group. Improved transmission method for OFDM mobile communications (4G)

What we offer:
Carlos III University of Madrid has developed a method that combines Precoding based on MMSE criterion and Waterfilling, which significantly improves the downlink in OFDM mobile communications.
It works with lower signal-to-noise ratios than with other methods, which increases capacity and coverage of each base station and reduces cost of the infrastructure for a required quality.
The results obtained by this technique are very satisfactory, showing better performance (between 20% and 70% increase in average bit rate transmitted to users) than other techniques such as BD for low signal-to-noise ratio (limiting factor in communications), and similar performance for high signal-to-noise ratio.

E-commerce application for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

What we offer:
The research group Security in Information and Communications Technologies (SETI) at the University Carlos III of Madrid has developed a system helps a user to buy in a supermarket using a mobile device iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
The system analyzes the shopping list and, using selection criteria, it compares prices at different stores. Finally, it reports on the chosen stores, the total amount, and it allows the purchase from the mobile device.

It is noteworthy its practical use due to potential savings and improvements of customer decisions.

Currently similar systems can operate from Internet, but none is known operating as an application for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Self Configuring Routing and 802.1D Bridging Bridge with automatic hierarchical local MAC addresses.

What we offer:
A Researh Group of the UC3M, offers the first hierarchical routing protocol on layer two using self configured standard local MAC addresses. Makes Ethernet networks scalable without encapsulation. Compatible and self configurable within IEEE 802.1D standard bridges through a combined spanning tree protocol. Simple application of Up/Down routing and Distance Vector principles, enhanced Turn Prohibition mechanisms that allow last turn to destination branch to be permitted.

Technology based on a RSTP generated hierarchical address tree which assigns each bridge a hierarchical address with topological meaning and that is employed for simple routing.

What are we looking for:
- Required investment is very low when compared with potential patent returns if related ideas are standardized or implemented by vendors.
- Additional protocol enhancements that might add extra value to the invention and produce additional patents are under investigation with good expectations.
- Company profile: Router/Switch manufacturer. Big, medium or small size companies. If small, for the case of the specific niche market of very high performance interconnection networks like Myrinet or storage area networks (SAN).
- The cost of implementing this technology to existing Ethernet switches implies modifying them with new software including the proposed protocol and, optionally, new hardware if performance wants to be optimised to the most.

Efficient method to detect and correct errors caused by radiation on digital filters

What we offer:
Research groups of two Spaniard Universities have developed a technique to protect digital filter implementations, frequently used in communications and signal processing against the errors caused by radiation. This solution provides both an effective protection against radiation and a competitive implementation cost in terms or area and power, those results in substantial cost savings when compared with traditional techniques such as Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR).
This technique can also be used to protect generic finite impulse response (FIR) filters and in both cases it results in a lower increment in the number of logic gates needed to implement the filter than for TMR.

Traffic Sign Recognition System

What we offer:
The research group CAOS at the Computing Department of the Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain, offers an efficient recognition system for traffic signs using a set of classifiers. This system can be used as part of an active security system in cars. The fact that the system is based on a set of classifiers facilitates a distributed implementation, resulting in cheaper hardware and an improvement in fault-tolerance.

Two Spaniard Universities in a joint collaboration have developed a system for road traffic characterization based on ultrasonic sensors, which provides the number, type and speed of vehicles on a road. The system is non-intrusive, provides low cost, low power consumption and easy installation, with applications such as efficient traffic management and environmental analysis.

The proposed traffic characterization system (SCT) classifies and measures the number of vehicles driving on a road and their speed. The information provided by this system allows a simple and inexpensive traffic characterization that flows through a road of one or more lanes, which can be useful in the traffic analysis to ensure efficient management or the environmental impact generated by the analyzed road.

Free-space laser optical link simulation software

What we offer:
GDAF (Displays and Photonics Applications Group) in Electronics Technology Department at University Carlos III de Madrid develops a hardware-software application for a communications free-space optical link, in a Project with INSA corp.
It aims to substitute the usual radio frequencies link, because of the increasing of bandwidth and the guarantee of privacity.
The interest for any company taking part of a optical communications satellite link is the fact that it will be a part of leading technology in aero spatial communications, a technology that gives the possibility of having full privacy and increased bandwidth. The introduction of the parameters involved in the company optical or electronic components acts as an added value for their characterization and applications.

What are we looking for:
Optics and electronics collaboration is searched.
Industry or academy corporations in the aero spatial area can be interested. Optical components manufacturers can obtain yield from the program, because it can test the performance of the components introducing their characteristics as inputs, and checking their influence in a simulated link. What we offer:
A Madrid placed University research group offers solutions in Identity Management for human beings (from Identification Cards to Biometrics).

The Group has proved experience in both national and European projects and offeres cooperation in R&D task, as well as Testing, Consultancy, Management Assitance, Training, Dissemination and Standardization.
Several Technologies are used, considering themselves as a multidisciplinary group. Researchers in the Information Security area in the Carlos III University of Madirid (Spain) are interested to exploit the potential of an emerging technology: network smart cards. Evaluation of Security Protocols Implementations

What we offer:
The use of security protocols and architectures arise new problems, as interoperability between the different implementations, or a greater predisposition to suffer attacks that saturate the available computing resources, stand out.

This project puts forward a methodology that allows assessing the level of conformity with the standard of the implementation of a security protocol or architecture and, at the same time, evaluating the performance of said solution. Moreover, the specific goals are: Conformity analysis, Interoperability and Performance. In order to develop the methodology, firstly the identification of parameters that influence on conformity with the standard and performance is carried out.

What are we looking for:
Collaboration with organizations or companies within the Information and Telecommunications security sector.

The potential target companies of the described procedure mainly fall into two different groups:

- 1) Any kind of organizations having equipment for the protection of communications. If those organizations must acquire new equipment (e.g. for expanding their capabilities), they must carry out a survey to check which are the manufacturers that offer devices that can interoperate with theirs.

- 2) Companies manufacturing communication protection devices. The less strong companies must ensure a greater interoperability degree. In this way, an organization will feel reassured about the interoperability of a new piece of equipment they may acquire with the rest of their equipment.

“Ad hoc” advanced machine learning algorithms for decision making, classification, and estimation

The Information Management and Processing research team of DTSC-UC3M, is ready to design “ad hoc” original and advanced machine learning algorithms for specific applications of decision making, info and event detection, and pattern and data register classification.
At present time, the most powerful learning machines are those based on kernels (Gaussian Processes, Support Vector Machines) and some families of machine ensembles (such as Mixtures of Experts and Boosting ensembles). G2PI has proposed several state-of-the-art new designs of all these kinds, some of them showing record performances; having an extensive experience in applying them to many problems in different areas.
